This painting of Dexter Cattle at Lax Hill view is from the Nature Reserve at Egleton near the town of Oakham.
Dexter Cattle originally came from Ireland and were introduced into England sometime in the early 1880s.
The Dexter Cattle at Rutland Water are at the west side of the reservoir and at the time Penny was commissioned to paint this painting in 2005 there were long Earred Owls at the Reserve.
The Reserve is famous for it's Ospreys that regularly Migrate to Rutland Water every year.
